Extended! The Open Contest for the Best Research Paper on Migration 2017

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mission to Moldova announces the extention of the deadline for submission of papers to the third edition of the Open Contest for the Best Research Paper on Migration. The papers can be submitted by 19 November 2017.
Young researchers (Bachelor students, Master Degree Students, Doctoral students, Post-Doctoral Researchers) from 18 to 35 years old, originating from the Republic of Moldova, including the left bank of the Nistru River, who hold or are undertaking a degree in the country or abroad are invited to participate. The competition accepts papers in Romanian, Russian and English. The competition is organized with the financial support of the European Union and guarantees prize money and the publication of the best research papers.
This year’s theme is “Diaspora phenomenon in the contemporary era: international and regional issues”. Writers can participate in the following three categories of the competition, depending on the degree they hold currently or are studying for – Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or Post-Doctorate.
Only individually written and finalized papers will be accepted for the contest, taking into account the following research directions:

Diaspora in the Contemporary Age: the Evolution of the Phenomenon and of the Concept.

Classical and contemporary diaspora;

Typology of diasporas;

The variety of approaches to defining the concept of "diaspora";

The role of the diaspora as a transnational community.

The place and the role of the Diaspora in the system of international relations.

Ethno cultural, institutional and socio-psychological characteristics of the contemporary diaspora;

The political, financial, economic and cultural potential of the diaspora associations;

Principles and forms of interaction of state institutions with diaspora;

Interaction of the state with the diasporas of other countries.

Refusal (officially declared or de facto executed) to achieve repatriation policy as the primary task of interacting with the diaspora;

The combination of paternalistic politics and pragmatic approach, with a view to effectively exploring the potential of the diaspora;

Creating and strengthening the communication system with other countries' diasporas.

The competition is organized by IOM Moldova within the framework of the project “Supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the EU-Moldova Mobility Partnership and harnessing its benefits for the residents of the Transnistria Region of the Republic of Moldova”, which is funded by the European Union.
