Mr. ROSSI-LONGHI Pier, Sr. Regional Immigration & Border Management Specialist, Regional Office for South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe & Central Asia (SEEECA), Liaison Office to UN Agencies & other International Organizations based in Vienna, together with IOM team had official meetings with Border Police and Customs Service Management and 2 field visits to Palanca and Otaci BCPs.
The purpose of the meeting/visits was to conduct a humanitarian border needs assessment with integrated protection components, as follows: acceleration of border crossing options; alternatives to registration (from borders to temporary reception points); identification and reaction to vulnerability; measures for Third Country Nationals (TCNs); alternatives and possible options to mitigate irregular influx into the EU via Romania; possible humanitarian corridors for distribution of assistance on UA border side .
The representative of the International Organization for Migration expressed IOM's readiness to provide assistance to the Customs Service in terms of strengthening IT capabilities and directly providing them with appropriate equipment, including assistance to migrants at the border. In this context, IOM donated 12 mobile phones to Border Police.
