IOM supports Moldovan authorities and diaspora' economic engagement through the Diaspora Invest Forum in Bucharest
Bucharest, November 16 - Titled "Diaspora Invest. Invest at Home", the event brought together public authorities, Moldovan diaspora investors from Romania and Moldovan businessmen to discuss investment opportunities, current legal and institutional framework, innovations, start-ups and market potential. Practical leads and partnership were discussed, for further follow-up by the private sector. Diaspora manifests strong interest for investment opportunities in the homeland and feels encouraged by the EU integration course adopted by the authorities of Moldova.
IOM participates and contributes to the organisation of the Diaspora Invest forum in Bucharest (in addition to other such events – in April in Washington DC, USA and in July in Dublin, Ireland, and in September in Madrid, Spain).
IOM’s input is particularly motivated by the intention to boost financial and economic literacy of the Moldovan diaspora, and foster partnerships, investments, and business creation in Moldova, but also to the benefit of the diaspora abroad.
“IOM strongly believes that advancing reforms in Moldova requires leveraging partnerships and multi-stakeholder cooperation, engaging national and local authorities, civil society, academia, diasporas and the private sector," was the message from the IOM Moldova's Chief of Mission, Ester Ruiz de Azua, to Moldovans in Romania in supporting the EU accession path based on their experience.
