A new regulation enacted during CNAM’s 20-year celebrations welcomes migrants and Moldovan diaspora with postgraduate studies in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy

Chisinau, September 12 - “We congratulate the Ministry of Health for adopting the new regulation on the procedure for recognition and equivalence of postgraduate studies in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, obtained abroad. Another step forward towards creating the necessary conditions to contribute to the integration of migrants and the Moldovan diaspora through their workforce, qualified skills and professionalism for the increase and development of quality health services in the Republic of Moldova”, commented the IOM Moldova’s Chief of Mission, Ester Ruiz de Azua, during the 20th anniversary of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM, Compania Naţională de Asigurări în Medicină), to welcome the enacted regulation which applies to Moldovan citizens and foreign nationals with the right of residence who wish to practice in the medical field within the country.

The new regulation enters into force while the Republic of Moldova is celebrating 20 years since the foundation of CNAM. Two decades of commitment to providing essential health services to the Moldovan population and migrants living in the country, addressing the urgent health needs of tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees who entered Moldova to flee the war.

Since the massive influx of Ukraine refugees into the country, IOM, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, concretely supported the National Health Insurance Company to ensure and expand the coverage of life-saving health services to persons in vulnerable situations, including insurance coverage for emergency services, primary care, urgent hospital care, dialysis, and medical devices.

Since February 2022, a total of 20,209 Ukrainian refugees were assisted by the National Health Insurance Company thanks to the support of IOM in Moldova and the generosity of its donors.
