First Steering Committee Meeting on the project “Addressing Emerging Threats Related to Trafficking in Persons in the Republic of Moldova.”
Chișinău - On 17 November 2023, IOM Moldova organized the first Steering Committee Meeting on the project “Addressing Emerging Threats Related to Trafficking in Persons in the Republic of Moldova.”
The project, generously funded by the US Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and implemented in partnership with the International Centre “La Strada”, focuses on strengthening the capacity of investigation and prosecution actors, as well as raising awareness on the importance of preventing organized crimes, particularly using information and communication technologies.
The event brought together the representatives of a donor organization, main implementing partners, and state stakeholders. It aimed to provide support, guidance, and oversight of the progress of the project.
The Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in Moldova, Brett Rose, the Interim Chief of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vitalie Pșenicinîi and the IOM Moldova Chief of Mission, Lars Johan Lönnback opened the event highlighting the impact of the project on the efforts and developments of the Government to combat TIP and prevent TIP-related cybercrime.
The International Center La Strada shared the results of the activity of the Hotline for Reporting Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM) supported by the project and the statistics of the CSAM reports received since April 2023, when the Hotline commenced its work.
The project partners shared their working plan for the next implementation phase of the project and had the opportunity to share the results achieved and reveal the challenges encountered during the first phase of project implementation and discuss the solutions.
