On 17 November 2017 was launched a new project that will enable the General Inspectorate of Border Police (GIBP) to offer tailored psychological services to migrants, especially to the ones found in vulnerable situations and to border police officers. The system of psychological services is envisaged to be developed in two years.
In his opening speech, Mr. Alexandru Larionov, State Secretary for Integrated Border Management, Migration and Asylum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, highlighted the importance of this approach to border security and to the implementation of the national Integrated Border Management strategy.
Mr. Fredolin Lecari, Head of the General Inspectorate of Border Police, expressed his gratitude to IOM for their continuous support to the implementation of the strategic recommendations of the EU Schengen Catalog and Border Code.
Mr. Simion Terzioglo, Migration and Development Programme Coordinator, International Organization for Migration, Mission to Moldova stressed that the current project follows up IOM’s recent support to the development of the Human Resources component. The project aims to create a consolidated psychological support system within the Border Police, a system, which will offer relevant assistance for both the Border Police staff and to the people crossing the border.  
On this occasion, GIBP psychologists shared their professional challenges and expectations, and explained the need for such service. Around other 20 attendees from relevant MIA agencies, governmental bodies and civil society joined the discussion, which once again emphasized the necessity and benefits of such service for migrants and GIBP personnel.

The $170,000 project is implemented by the International Organization for Migration, Mission to Moldova in partnership with the General Inspectorate of Border Police (GIBP) and funded by the IOM Development Fund.
