A new playground inaugurated to strengthen social ties between Ukrainian refugees and local communities
Chisinau, 13 September 2024 - Today, IOM Moldova participated in the inauguration of a new playground in Hîrbovăț built as part of the DAR 1+3 project implemented in collaboration with the Bureau for Relations with Diaspora, the Hîrbovăț municipality, and diaspora members.
This new area in Anenii Noi district, equipped with playground facilities, relaxation zones, and spaces for recreational activities, symbolizes a further joint effort by the Moldovan authorities and IOM Moldova to promote social cohesion between Ukrainian refugees and host communities.
“Diaspora communities have a unique ability to contribute to local development, serving as bridges between cultures, ideas, and resources. Their financial contributions are not only fostering social and economic development but also helping to preserve the cultural heritage and identity of Moldova,” said Ester Ruiz de Azua, Chief of Mission IOM Moldova.
Croitor Rodica, Mayor of Hîrbovăț added: “We are honored to announce the opening of a great space for young people, including refugees in the community. The construction of this playground aimed to strengthen the active participation of Hîrbovăț residents and create a cohesive community and socially active and inclusive relationships. We are grateful to all actors involved in realizing this wonderful idea!”
The project submitted by the village of Hîrbovăț is one of 16 projects awarded within the government program 'Diaspora Succeeds at Home DAR 1+3’ which was supported by IOM thanks to the generous financial support of the US Government.
