State Chancellery launches an information campaign on combating human trafficking
Chișinău, 30 July 2023- In the context of the World Day Against Trafficking (WDAT) in Persons 2023, the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the International Centre "La Strada" and the International Organization for Migration, has launched a National Counter-Trafficking information campaign. The campaign is implemented in the framework of the project "Strengthening National Efforts to Prevent Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Rehabilitate Victims of Trafficking in the Republic of Moldova", funded by the Office to Monitor and Combat TIP of the US Department of State. Its principal objective is to prevent TIP and improve the level of public information and reporting of TIP cases.
This year the campaign will unprecedentedly run from 28 July (WDAT) to 18 October (EU Anti-Trafficking Day) to maximize the reach of the targeted population and sensitize the risk of TIP and exploitation among those who seek job opportunities abroad, including but not limited, young professionals, victims of domestic violence, refugees, the unemployed.
Since 2001, the Safe Migration and Anti-Trafficking Hotline (free of charge and confidential) - 0 800 77777 - has been operating in the Republic of Moldova, For calls from abroad, there is also a telephone number + 373 (22) 23 33 09.
The hotline is operated by the International Centre "La Strada" and has so far registered around 300,000 calls. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, 52 potential or suspected cases of TIP have been registered by the hotline.
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is marked annually on 30 July and this year's slogan is "Reach every victim of human trafficking, leave no one behind”.
