IOM Launches National PLURAL+ Video Competition in Moldova
The 2nd Edition of the PLURAL+ MOLDOVA video competition was launched last week to encourage young Moldovans to submit videos sharing their thoughts, experiences, opinions, questions and suggestions on issues surrounding migration, identity and diversity at the national level.
This initiative, carried out in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Moldovan Ministry of Education will run until 15 November 2010. The awards ceremony will take place in the capital Chisinau to mark International Migrants Day on 18 December 2010.
Posters, flyers and Public Service Announcements (PSAs) were developed, alongside an Internet-based mass information campaign to encourage young people to take part in the contest.
In 2009, IOM Moldova launched a national level PLURAL+ competition to foster discussions amongst young Moldovans on a variety of topics related to migration, identity and diversity.
In all, 15 videos covering a vast spectrum of migration-related issues were submitted and screened at national and international levels, including at a recent IOM-organized International Dialogue on Migration on migration and transnationalism.
"Moldova offers an ideal context for PLURAL+ contributions as migration affects every single household in the country," says Martin Wyss, IOM Moldova Chief of Mission. "This event is an important milestone in furthering the discussion about migration issues not only among young but also among larger segments of Moldovan society."
An initiative of the UN Alliance of Civilization and IOM, PLURAL+ is organized in collaboration with 18 international partners, including the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, Chinh India, UNESCOCat, Red Unial, COPEAM, BaKaFORUM, Roots&Routes, NoGhetto, Al Jadeed Television and UNICEF.
